Awakening

My mother-

I see her naked

her hair

loose , tumbling down her back

her body , exposed ,

the wrinkles and the

Mastectomy scars….

The  flaccid single breast

And I see, not my mother

Not my mother who battles the tremors of Parkinson’s

Not my mother who’s arthritic bones creak..

But I see the limbs , of a

beautiful primordial goddess

Free of disease ,free of limitations

She is to me...

Woman ,  whole ,

once an object of desire ,

once a vessel bearing life ,from those thighs....

and not just a bearer of crosses

In those frown lines

And not just a stooped shoulder of sacrifices

and I want to just scream

At her...

to worship

That body

That she is sacred

As are her wants

And needs

And not give up

because she is

my mother ,

But not just that

She is also - not just that .

She is … all those who came before her

And she is

She is also me.

Lockdown  Lemons

May 23 2020

Contemplative and searching

These are the feelings

That were invoked in me

As the pandemic hit and

shut us all down

Scared and confused we were told to stay home

Death and devastation around us

Socially distancing

became the new norm

With the virus

Life gave us lemons

So I roamed my backyard grateful for my morning walk

And fresh air

The blooms on the citrus trees

intoxicating me with their scent

And I thanked my senses for still being able to smell.

The months passed and we still stayed home

And then came the lemons

I squeezed them in hot water and drank them in the morning - good for the immune system

I juggled with them to keep amused

I grated the rind

I made lemon loaf and lemon tart

I garnished , sliced

I scrubbed my face

I gave them to friends

Neighbors and strangers

I inhaled the scent and  diffused  them

Made Lemoncillo  and margaritas  quartered and sliced them ,

Pickled them in spices

Painted the green leaves against the yellow skin and blue skies

On Canvas and postcards .

And mailed them away

Trying

to stay connected

With loved ones.

Contemplating my new way of life

Finding ways to make the best of it

To make

lemonade

Out of lemons

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
